National Day Singapore 2026: How the Accela Team is Celebrating

Happy National Day, Singapore! This August 9, we celebrate our nation's 61st birthday — a special occasion that brings families and communities together to honour Singapore's remarkable journey. It's a time to reflect on our independence, celebrate our progress, and appreciate the unity and resilience that make this country home.

As we look forward to the festivities, we spoke to some of our colleagues at Accela to find out how they'll be celebrating the holiday. They also shared their favourite National Day memories and what this meaningful occasion represents to them.

Jean Ho - Talent Executive
How do you plan to celebrate National Day this year?
I’m planning to have a quiet National Day at home. I prefer a more relaxed celebration over the crowds, so it’s the perfect way for me to enjoy the occasion.
What makes Singapore a great place to live and work?
For me, it's the little things that make a big difference. Getting around is easy thanks to our efficient public transport, and almost everything is within easy reach. Whether it's commuting to work, meeting friends, or grabbing a meal, life here is incredibly convenient, which makes day-to-day living so much easier.
What is one thing you personally appreciate most about living and working in Singapore?
What I appreciate most is how safe, convenient, and diverse Singapore is. I love that I can enjoy my favourite hawker foods at affordable prices. While Singapore can be expensive, there are still plenty of delicious and budget-friendly options if you know where to look.

I also appreciate living in a multicultural society where different cultures come together, making everyday life more vibrant. Above all, it's the sense of safety that stands out. The fact that people can "chope" a seat with a packet of tissue (sometimes personal belongings like a phone/bag) is such a uniquely Singaporean experience. Of course, I wouldn't encourage leaving your valuables unattended, but it reflects the level of trust and security that many of us enjoy every day.
Are there any National Day events or activities you're looking forward to?
I’m mostly looking forward to the long weekend and taking the opportunity to unwind and recharge. It’s a great chance to slow down and enjoy some downtime while celebrating Singapore’s National Day.

How do you plan to celebrate National Day this year?
Recharge & prioritise self-care and wellness by visiting the spa at the Capella Sentosa.
What makes Singapore a great place to live and work?
World-Class Infrastructure & Connectivity - From Changi Airport and a seamless public transport system to high-speed digital connectivity and world-class healthcare, things here simply work.
What is one thing you personally appreciate most about living and working in Singapore?
If I had to pick just one thing, it would be the food culture. In Singapore, food is the ultimate universal language. It brings people from all walks of life together in hawker centers to share a meal under one roof. The sheer diversity—from Hainanese Chicken Rice, Roti Prata, and Laksa to Katong Nasi Lemak and Michelin-starred dining—reflects the true heart and soul of the nation's culture.
Are there any National Day events or activities you're looking forward to?
The Spectacular Fireworks Display - Watching the skyline over the Marina Bay Basin light up in brilliant colours alongside patriotic music.

Deeksha Bhatnagar - Finance Manager
This year's National Day will be a little different for me. My family and I will be travelling to India to celebrate my father-in-law's 80th birthday, which is a very special milestone for our family. While I'll miss the National Day Parade, the rehearsals, and the vibrant celebrations in Singapore, I'm looking forward to spending quality time with my extended family and celebrating this memorable occasion together.

Every time I travel overseas, I return with an even greater appreciation for Singapore. It is truly one of the best places to live and work. The sense of safety and security is unmatched, giving me peace of mind every day. Singapore also offers a world-class education system, excellent healthcare, efficient public transport, and outstanding infrastructure, all of which contribute to an exceptional quality of life.

Professionally, Singapore is a global financial hub with a thriving startup ecosystem and the regional headquarters of many multinational companies. This creates exciting opportunities for innovation, career growth, and collaboration in a dynamic and multicultural environment. It is a place where businesses and people can thrive together.

One of the things I value most is Singapore's connectivity. The seamless transport network makes getting around effortless, and its strategic location in Asia means India is only a short flight away. Being able to visit family regularly while building a career in Singapore is something I truly appreciate.

Although I'll be away during the National Day celebrations this year, I'm looking forward to celebrating with my colleagues when I'm back. Office celebrations are always filled with fun activities, laughter, and opportunities to bond as a team. It's a wonderful way to celebrate Singapore's achievements and reflect on how fortunate we are to live and work in such an inclusive, vibrant, and forward-looking nation.

As Singapore celebrates another National Day, I feel grateful to call this country home. It is a place that continues to inspire confidence, provide opportunities, and offer an outstanding quality of life. Happy National Day, Singapore!

Lydia Lee - HR Manager
How do you plan to celebrate National Day this year?
Same as every year, volunteering with the Singapore Red Cross, looking after the public who are heading down to the National Stadium to watch the show live.
What makes Singapore a great place to live and work?
The stability and reliability of the country overall, from public transport to the banks to government policies.
What is one thing you personally appreciate most about living and working in Singapore?
The convenience. Singapore is a small country, so movement isn't difficult to begin with, but the efficiency and how well thought-out the roads and public transport systems are is always amazing.
Are there any National Day events or activities you're looking forward to?
National Day is on a Sunday this year, so I'm sure all the neighbourhoods will be buzzing with activities. Very excited for all the grassroots to come together to celebrate National Day.

Shamili Periasamy - Senior Finance Associate
How do you plan to celebrate National Day this year?
We usually celebrate National Day with a BBQ at home with family and friends. It's always nice to get everyone together, have some good food, and just enjoy the evening.
What makes Singapore a great place to live and work?
I think what makes Singapore great is how safe, convenient, and well-connected it is. It's also such a multicultural place, so you get to experience different cultures, traditions, and of course, lots of good food!. This is home, truly!!
What is one thing you personally appreciate most about living and working in Singapore? 
I really appreciate how convenient everything is. You can pretty much get anywhere easily, and there are always lots of options when it comes to things to do. I also enjoy being able to meet and work with people from different backgrounds.
Are there any National Day events or activities you're looking forward to?
Since the National Day Parade is happening in Kallang this year, I'm looking forward to having a pretty good view of the fireworks from the comfort of my home, even if it's from a distance! It's the best of both worlds - I get to enjoy the fireworks without having to deal with the crowds.


Medea Roesti - Director of Finance and Corporate Secretary
How do you plan to celebrate National Day this year?
I'll probably keep it simple by spending quality time with my family and close friends. 
National Day is a wonderful excuse for everyone to gather, share a meal, raise a toast to Singapore, and enjoy each other's company. 
It's also a nice opportunity to slow down from work, reflect on how far Singapore has come, and appreciate everything we often take for granted.

What makes Singapore a great place to live and work?
For me, it's the combination of safety, stability, and opportunity. 
Singapore provides a business environment where companies can grow with confidence, while its efficient infrastructure and multicultural community make it a great place to live. 
Working in finance, I also appreciate how Singapore upholds high standards of governance and professionalism, which creates trust for businesses and clients alike.

What is one thing you personally appreciate most about living and working in Singapore? 

One thing I truly appreciate about Singapore is that it makes it possible to balance a fulfilling career with an active lifestyle.

Outside of work, tennis is my passion, and this year I had the opportunity to compete in the Singapore Tennis Association's Pesta Sukan tournament, held in celebration of National Day.

Standing on the podium as the Ladies 35+ Singles runner-up was a moment I'll always treasure. 

It's a reminder that in Singapore, there are so many opportunities to challenge yourself, stay active, and be part of a community that celebrates both achievement and participation.

Are there any National Day events or activities you're looking forward to?
One of my favourite National Day traditions is having a BBQ on my balcony with family and close friends while enjoying a glass of bubbly. 
We're fortunate to have a view of the aerial display from home, so it's always a special way to celebrate together. 
After the fireworks, I also enjoy watching all the boats make their way back from Marina Bay to their berths. 
Seeing them slowly cruise home across the water always reminds me that, after all the celebrations, it's the simple moments spent with the people we care about that make National Day so meaningful.

Lou Yi Lin - Finance Associate
How do you plan to celebrate National Day this year?
I’ll probably spend National Day with my family and friends, have a nice meal together and just enjoy the day. If possible, I’d also like to catch the National Day Parade and fireworks!
What makes Singapore a great place to live and work?
For me, it’s the convenience, safety and accessibility of everything. We have great food, good public transport and many opportunities to grow and build our careers. Even though Singapore is small, there’s always something to do or explore.
What is one thing you personally appreciate most about living and working in Singapore?
I appreciate the convenience the most. Whether it’s getting around, finding food, running errands or meeting friends, everything is relatively easy and accessible. I also really enjoy having so many different types of food available here!
Are there any National Day events or activities you're looking forward to?
Definitely the fireworks! I always enjoy seeing the National Day decorations and the festive atmosphere around Singapore. It’s also nice seeing everyone come together to celebrate, even if it’s just spending time with friends and family.

Spending time with family and friends, and catching the fireworks!

Safety, having things to do in every corner of the island, bureaucracy
What is one thing you personally appreciate most about living and working in Singapore? 
Being able to work with people from all over the world, being a regional hub for talents to come in

I ALWAYS do a National Day song singalong I LOVE IT!

How do you plan to celebrate National Day this year?
We're planning a cycling ride across the neighbourhood reservoir, a serene sanctuary where we can celebrate while immersed in nature. It's our go-to place during holidays—quiet, peaceful, and perfect for reflecting on our national pride while enjoying time together as a family.

What makes Singapore a great place to live and work?
Singapore is exceptional for its safety and efficient commute system—two fundamentals that give us peace of mind and make daily life seamless. Whether it's reliable public transport or accessible services, everything feels within reach, allowing us to focus on what truly matters: our families, our goals, and enjoying life without unnecessary stress.

What is one thing you personally appreciate most about living and working in Singapore?
What I appreciate most is how effortlessly daily activities flow—healthcare, education, services, everything feels accessible and well-organized. But beyond the convenience, Singapore feels like home; it's where we've built our lives and created memories, and that sense of belonging combined with the city's stability is what truly makes it special.

Are there any National Day events or activities you're looking forward to?
What I'm most looking forward to is watching the parade on television with my son. It's not the spectacle itself, but the joy and wonder on his face as he experiences the celebration—seeing his eyes light up as he connects with his nation's heritage. Those shared moments with him are what make National Day truly meaningful.


Tatyana Kromi - Senior Communications Executive
How do you plan to celebrate National Day this year?
I’ll be keeping the celebrations fairly simple this year by spending time with friends and family, enjoying some of my favourite local food and, of course, catching the fireworks. 

What makes Singapore a great place to live and work?
Singapore is incredibly efficient - everything just works here! At the same time, it is such a lively and dynamic city, with so many cultures, experiences and opportunities packed into one place. I’m especially appreciative of Singapore’s multiculturalism and how easy it is to connect with people from different backgrounds.

What is one thing you personally appreciate most about living and working in Singapore?
Beyond the convenience and connectivity, it has to be the food. There is an incredible variety available at almost any time of day, from hawker favourites to cuisines from around the world. Whenever I’m away for too long, Singapore’s food options are always one of the first things I start to miss!

Are there any National Day events or activities you’re looking forward to?
I’m most looking forward to the National Day Parade and fireworks. There is something special about seeing the city come together and feeling that shared sense of pride and community, whether you are watching in person or from home.


Erin Padilla - CEO & Founder
How do you plan to celebrate National Day this year?
This year I'm travelling to Manila to visit some of the first friends we met when we came to Singapore almost 20 years ago. It's a special trip, as friendships like these made Singapore feel like home right from the start.

What makes Singapore a great place to live and work?
The combination of stability and ambition. As someone running a business in Singapore, I've seen how Singapore's regulatory clarity make it possible to build and scale with confidence. Add to that the connectivity, safety, and diversity of talent and industries in one small radius, and it's hard to find a better place to live and work.

What is one thing you personally appreciate most about living and working in Singapore?
The sense of community within such a compact, connected city. No matter how busy life gets, there's an ease to running into familiar faces and staying close to the people around you, and I love it.
